However, because of the race tensions that existed back in the day, many Boogie Woogie recordings created by African Americans were “covered” by white artists, keeping African Americans out of the market for years.īesides the African American influence, there was also a country influence in Rock n Roll. This style and sound soon came to present itself in Rock n Roll music through Elvis, Johnny Cash, and many more artists in years to come. The result of Boogie Woogie was a very catchy dance tune that could be played in dance clubs and the like. Pianists also improvised with the right hand to fit the rhythm, much like the style in jazz and blues. It’s a style of piano playing in which there is a constantly repeating rhythm played by the pianists left hand, and a distinct melody played by the right hand. One of the branches is called “Boogie Woogie”. Blues in the northern cities turned into “Urban Blues”, and soon this style of music began to shape into other sub branches of blues. This type of music originated with the African Americans and as they migrated north they took with them this influence by the millions. Blues was a major component in developing Rock n Roll. One of these influences was portrayed through the music made by African Americans in the early twentieth century. It had many influences that went into the creation of its final form. Rock n Roll wasn’t always just Rock n Roll. In this post, I want to get into some of the precursors that influenced the creation of Rock n Roll.
